Travellers Diarrhoea can be caused by all sorts of things - overindulging in alcohol or eating spicy foods. However with an increasing number of holidaymakers travelling to more exotic destinations sometimes the cause can be contaminated food or water. The important things to do are:
-replace lost fluids by drinking plenty of bottled water
-drink only tea or flat/fizzy cola or other soft drinks. As appetite improves introduce dry toast or plain biscuits.
- if loperamide fails to control the symptoms or you develop a fever or pass blood or mucus you should seek medical advice.
